If We Controlled Your Remote… 3/22/13

It’s the end of the week…and what a week it’s been. My kid’s on spring break, but there are no friends in the neighborhood in town, and the weather has been awful. Cold, snowy… So he’s been stuck inside all week. Ah well. Just one of those things. We’ve caught up on some shows, but we still have a long way to go…and tonight has a few episodes to make that situation worse, not better. Megan & I are here to tell you what we recommend. 🙂

Jenny’s Choice

lastmanstanding322smallTonight is the season finale of Last Man Standing. I’ve enjoyed the second season. I wasn’t sure at the beginning because they replaced the actress playing Kristin, and I’d really liked Alexandra Krosney. But Amanda Fuller has been great, even though I’m still far from a fan of Ryan and his relationship with Kristin. The show is listed as “Could go either way” on TVLine’s page, and if it isn’t renewed, I’ll be quite sad.

On tonight’s episode, “College Girl,” when Mandy gets accepted to not one but two colleges, Kristin realizes it’s time to re-evaluate where she is in her life, especially after running into a successful former co-worker. Eve gets help with her Junior ROTC competition from their neighbor Chuck. Jonathan Taylor Thomas makes a special guest star appearance when he reunites with Tim Allen, his dad from Home Improvement.

malibucountry322smallTonight is also the season finale of Malibu Country. I absolutely love Reba, and this show has been consistently cute and funny all season. Lily Tomlin is brilliant as Lillie May, Reba’s mother, and the kids have grown on me as the season went along. Again, the show could go either way according to TVLine, and I’ll be just as sad because this has provided many laughs for me.

On tonight’s episode, “All You Single Ladies,” Lillie May, Geoffrey, & Kim secretly makes an online date for Reba. Even though her first meeting with Brad doesn’t exactly go as planned, Reba finds herself appreciating the experience and believes that she might be ready to take on the dating scene. Stacy Keach & Eddie McClintock guest star.

See both season finales tonight on ABC at 8/7c & 8:30/7:30c. Learn where to find episodes online of Last Man Standing & Malibu Country @ TV.com.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Grimm.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 3/8/13

Well, hello there, Friday, you sexy beast you… Thanks for coming in and bringing the weekend along with you! *happy dance* (That’s right, I often speak to the days of the week—you don’t even want to know how I speak to Monday! *blush*) Now that I’ve worshipped the awesomeness that is Friday, let’s look at what fantastical television there is to keep us in the happy weekend vibe.

Megan’s Choice

bluebloods38smallI’m sure when you think of happy vibes, it doesn’t always involve crime dramas like Blue Bloods. Well, in my TV addict’s world it does. 🙂 Tonight, we are being spoiled with a new episode, and I am looking forward to grabbing a cup of tea (or perhaps some Irish Coffee to toast the Reagans) and curling up to watch my favorite crime-fighting family. Last episode, we watched Danny and Erin work together to help a father solve his daughter’s murder years after the incident. As usual, they came through and justice was served. I really enjoy seeing Erin getting involved in the cases because I find her more personable when she’s not just the tough lawyer.

On tonight’s episode, “Protest Too Much,” Danny’s latest case involves a pair of “Bonnie and Clyde” bank robbers. Frank contemplates dating a woman who’s a friend of Erin’s.

To see if Danny can catch the devious pair, tune in to CBS at 10/9c. Learn where to find episodes online of Blue Bloods @ TV.com.

I’ll also be watching Grimm, Golden Boy, Kitchen Nightmares, Cult, Touch, and Spartacus.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 11/2/12

It’s been a long week here at my house. Our oldest kitty (he was born in August 1996, the same month my husband & I got married, and we adopted him when he was a month old) had gotten to the point where he wasn’t eating or drinking beyond a few laps of water or milk each day, and his hind quarters wasn’t working. He couldn’t walk on his back legs at all. He wasn’t in pain, so we were hoping to let him die peacefully at home, but Wednesday afternoon, we made the decision that rather than let him starve or dehydrate himself to death, we would take him in to the vet on Thursday morning and have him put to sleep. It was literally the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make, and my heart is still broken. That said, there is some great TV on tonight to help distract me and entertain you, so check out our recommendations for what to watch tonight.

Jenny’s Choice #1

I was going to pick Nikita again this week because I am loving the new season, but then I remembered that tonight is the season premiere of Last Man Standing. I know, I know. I can hear Kyle’s groan from here. But I really enjoyed the show last year. I’m not sure quite what to think because they replaced Alexandra Krosney, who played teen mom Kristin, with Amanda Fuller. I liked Alexandra in the role. I’m not sure why they recast her…but I do hope I like Amanda just as much, if not more. Maybe it’s because they are aging Kristin’s son, Boyd, to five years old, so they needed to age her a little, as well? Regardless, I enjoy the show a lot, so I’m sure I’ll be fine with the recasting. They recast Ryan, Boyd’s father, as well—from Nick Jonas to Jordan Masterson. Last season, Jonas was in one episode, while Masterson will be in multiple episodes.

On tonight’s episode, “Voting,” Mike does all he can to persuade first-time voter Mandy to vote for Governor Romney in the upcoming presidential election. But when he lobbies her heavily, he finds himself going up against her older sister, Kristin, and Boyd’s father, Ryan, who are just as enthusiastic for President Obama and disagree with Mike’s trying to influence Mandy. While they all battle for Mandy’s vote and soul, Vanessa remains neutral in the interest of family harmony.

See if season two is as funny as season one was tonight on ABC at 8/7c. Learn where to find episodes online of Last Man Standing @ Clicker.

Trailers for New Fall Shows on ABC & Our Thoughts

You’ve probably seen all the news the last few days about the renewals and cancellations, as well as all the new series coming to the networks in the Fall of 2012. Here are ABC’s offerings for new series. Watch them all and then let us know what you’re most looking forward to!

Jenny’s Thoughts: It looks good, scary, but may be way too complicated and “Lost-y” for me. – Most likely 1 and done
Megan’s Thoughts: This was an intense trailer, and I’m loving the dark edge to it. I enjoyed seeing Terry O’Quinn in this, and I’m glad he has a regular series. He plays evil well. – Excited
Kyle’s Thoughts: I think the “made by” Gossip Girl/PLL folks said a lot – looks like a CW show but with an older cast. A cross between The Shining, American Horror Story, and The Firm. – Most likely 1 and done.
