Tonight, Cinemax’s over-the-top action/adventure spy drama Strike Back returns for its fifth season on the network, with an all-new cast. The series follows the exploits of Section 20, a top-secret branch of the British Defense Intelligence service that takes on risky missions around the globe. This isn’t the first time the series has changed things up. The protagonist of the first season – which Cinemax aired as Strike Back: Origins several years after the current series premiered – had a different protagonist, and he passed the torch to Sergeants Stonebridge and Scott in the first season of the Cinemax series. Now, with Strike Back: Retribution, it’s time for the torch to be passed once again to new cast of characters.

I have thoroughly enjoyed every iteration of this series thus far. When the series moved to Cinemax, they really amped up the action and also added some humor. I look forward to meeting the new team, seeing what threat Section 20 must take down, and what exciting missions await the soldiers this season. It looks as though the series will be keeping the same US/UK dynamic of the previous four Cinemax seasons – partnering up US Joint Special Operations Command Sergeant Samuel Wyatt (Daniel MacPherson, The Shannara Chronicles) with British Army/ex-United Kingdom Special Forces Sergeant Thomas “Mac” McAllister (Warren Brown, Luther) – while also expanding out the team a bit this season. The rest of the main characters include British Army Captain Natalie Reynolds (Roxanne McKee, Dominion); Lance Corporal Gracie Novin (Alin Sumarwata, Neighbours) of Australian Army Special Operations Command; British Army Colonel Adeena Donovan (Nina Sosanya, W1A, Marcella), the leader of the revived Section 20; and Lance Corporal Will Jensen (Phil Dunster, Murder on the Orient Express) of the British Army Intelligence Corps.

On tonight’s premiere, members of Section 20 are called back into action when a new threat puts the world in danger.

Check out the season premiere tonight on Cinemax at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Absentia, Altered Carbon, Child Support, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and The Graham Norton Show.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 10/12/12

This will be short and sweet because neither Megan nor I are feeling well. So I’m writing up the top because I didn’t know I wasn’t going to do my part of it until just now, but I just don’t have the energy. You know what we’ll both be watching, though. 😉 So check out what Kyle & JJ recommend. – Jenny

Tonight, another explosive season of Strike Back comes to an end. Last week, Section 20 tried to set up a roadblock to stop the truck containing the nuclear bomb. However, the driver rammed right through, partially detonating the bomb in the process, forcing evacuation of the village. After Scott and Stonebrige were confirmed as being radiation-free, they got back to work, heading to Johannesburg. Scott, Stonebridge, and the local police organized a meeting between a dirty lawyer and Knox, but at the last minute Scott realized it was a trap and just managed to escape as the building exploded. Meanwhile, Stonebridge chased down the man who shot his wife, but the police showed up before he could get his revenge. At the end of the episode, Knox said that change was only going to happen in Africa if he let the bombs go off.

So tonight should be another exciting season finale! Will Scott and Stonebridge be able to stop Knox before he sets off the nuclear bombs? I think we can all agree the answer is Yes, but I’m excited to see how they do it! I’m happy Cinemax has already renewed the series for a third season, as it should ease the upcoming adrenaline withdrawal!

In tonight’s season finale, Scott asks for Bryant’s help in stopping Knox; a vengeful Stonebridge has trouble focusing on the mission at hand; and Section 20 gets much-needed assistance from South African police to track down Knox and his nuclear arsenal.

Note: There will be a marathon of the entire second season on the MoreMax channel starting at 2:30pm ET, leading up to tonight’s season finale on Cinemax.

Don’t miss what is sure to be a fantastic season finale on Cinemax at 10/9c. Learn where to find episodes online of Strike Back @ Clicker.

Tonight, I’ll also be watching/recording Fringe, Haven, Grimm, and Primetime: What Would You Do?.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 8/17/12

I don’t know about you, but I have this ominous Game of Thrones-style “Fall is Coming” mantra looming over me. So much great new TV is coming that I don’t know how I’m going to either record or watch it all! I almost broke down and purchased a new four-tuner TiVo yesterday, though I think the purchase is inevitable and a Labor Day sale at Best Buy would push me over the edge. 🙂 Right now, I’m just trying to enjoy the calm before the storm, and tonight is really calm. Read on to find out what we recommend you check out tonight.

Friday nights just got a little more action-packed with the return of Strike Back on Cinemax. In the series, cocky ex-Delta Force operative Damien Scott is teamed with Royale Marine and former SBS commando Michael Stonebridge as part of a top secret branch of MI6 called Section 20. Scott is a ladies man who seems to always be in flagrante when a new mission arises (or even mid-mission), while his partner, Stonebridge, is more by-the-book and married to a woman who’s pressuring him to take a desk job and start a family. Last season, the guys were on a season-long hunt for an international criminal named Latif who killed one of their own. In the end, Latif was captured and killed, but in the process, they lost both colleague Captain Kate Marshall (with whom Stonebridge was having an affair) and Colonel Eleanor Grant. With a severe lack of female characters (besides Scott’s constant companions) at the end of last season, this season they are adding Rhona Mitra to the cast as Captain Rachel Dalton, who takes over as head of Section 20.

Strike Back is so much fun—each season is comprised of 5 two-part stories, with an overriding season-long arc. This makes each pair of episodes feel like its own buddy action flick. Strike Back has over-the-top action, great locales, interesting and complex plots, and mixes in a lot of fun moments, as well. I may find it a bit odd that they have an American playing a Brit and an Australian playing an American, but these two guys work really well together. It will be interesting to see their chemistry with the new Colonel—I really liked the character of Colonel Grant and was sad to see her sacrifice herself for the mission. I can’t wait for the new missions to start tonight—a show on Cinemax really shouldn’t be this good, but it is!

In tonight’s double-episode premiere, Scott heads to Kenya to facilitate the transfer of a Libyan seeking asylum, but he winds up in the middle of a kidnap plot that lands himself and three hostages in the hands of a warlord in Mogadishu. Meanwhile, Stonebridge is training Section 20 recruits in the United Kingdom, where he’s forced to deal with one trainee who’s become unstable.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 10/21/11

There are so many times in a TV addict’s life where TV becomes a break from life… true story. Such is my week, so I am so excited that Friday night is here. Friday is a great night of television, and I think it’s going to be a fabulous break from life for everyone. Let’s take a look at what you should be watching tonight.

Week after week, Blue Bloods continues to deliver amazing drama and superb acting. The cast is solid, always portraying their characters in such a fashion that we can’t help but join in the drama that’s unfolding on the screen. One of my favorite parts of every episode is the family dinners and the Reagan family bantering over issues. It’s always entertaining and heartwarming to see a family that stands by each other, even when they completely disagree. What’s your favorite part of the show?

On tonight’s episode, “A Night on the Town,” Danny and Linda plan a romantic weekend, but a case keeps disrupting their agenda. Meanwhile, Jamie works undercover inside a crime family.

To see if the family’s boy wonder, Jamie, can hold his own while swimming with the big fish, tune in to CBS at 10/9c. You won’t be sorry you did! Learn where to find episodes online of Blue Bloods @ Clicker.

I don’t know about you, but it’s kind of been a long week here. Thankfully, we got some great new TV to kick off the new Fall season. There’s some good stuff tonight, and then you’d better spend the weekend making sure you’re caught up, because next week is packed FULL of premieres! Now, read on to see what we think you should watch tonight.

It’s been a great season of Haven, but we only have 3 episodes left. Nathan’s dad died, Nathan became chief, Nathan got fired, the new chief died, and now Nathan has become chief again. Audrey found out she’s not the real Audrey Parker—that someone gave her the memories of the real AP—and then that real AP lost her memories after seeing something strange, all signs are pointing to Audrey somehow being the woman from the newspaper all those years ago—Lucy—although how that works, we have no idea, and she started developing feelings for Chris, a man with troubles, who is now gone again—thank goodness. Duke’s wife showed up, and we found out she’s not just a b*tch, but she’s working with the Rev—does she want to kill Duke? we have no idea…—and poor Duke is going nuts as he just waits for the man with the tattoo to come and try to kill him. It’s all enough to make my head spin! Luckily, it’s crazy, but it’s so damn fun to watch that all the crazy details don’t bother me.

On tonight’s episode, a search party is put together to locate a local teen who has gone missing in Haven’s woods while a murderer is on the loose, and during their search, the group discovers evidence to support the existence of a supernatural creature. (Heck, it’s Haven…the whole damn town is supernatural! Why should one creature be that much of a surprise?)

Check it out tonight on Syfy at 10/9c. Learn where to find episodes online of Haven @ Clicker.
