It has been a very slow summer for television, so I haven’t been around much, but I thought I’d drop in this week to give a couple recommendations. For today I would like to draw your attention to World of Dance and the amazing talent that we have been seeing so far. The judges are incredibly knowledgeable, and I love the chemistry between them. Last season I wasn’t sure if I liked Derek, but after a while he grew on me, and now he’s probably my favorite. I’m glad the qualifying rounds are coming to an end because the battle rounds are the most intense part of the show in my opinion.

Tonight in the final round of “The Qualifiers,” the world’s most elite dance acts from all ages and dance genres enter the World of Dance arena to face off in the challenge of a lifetime. The acts have one chance to showcase their artistry, precision, and athleticism in order to move forward in the competition and ultimately win a grand prize of $1 million.

To see how many more dancers will make it through to the next round, tune in to NBC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching The Amazing Race Canada, Beat Shazam, and America’s Got Talent.

Tonight, TNT’s family crime drama Animal Kingdom returns for its third season. Last season, the guys started to wonder why they were doing all the work and their mother, Smurf, was taking a huge cut, so they decided to do things on their own. This left J in the middle – he felt loyalty to both his uncles and his grandmother. Meanwhile, Baz was convinced that it was Smurf who killed his wife, so he planted evidence and arranged for Smurf to get arrested for another murder. He also stole all of the money that Smurf had been hiding from her sons and stashed it behind the walls of his home. While in prison, Smurf gave J the power of attorney over her affairs, as he was the only one she trusted. As the season ended, Baz and his girlfriend Lucy were about to take a trip to Mexico when someone approached their truck and put four bullets through the windshield and into Baz. As Baz lay on the ground bleeding out, Lucy ran away and cleared out all of the hidden money.

Will Baz survive his attack, and who arranged the hit? Did Lucy do it to get her hands on the money, and where did she move it to? Did Smurf arrange this as retaliation from jail? After all, Baz is her adopted son, while the others are all blood relatives. Did Pope, Craig, or Deran arrange the hit on their brother? Or was J responsible for getting the man he thinks might be his father shot? Who will step up to be the new leader of the group if Baz is out of commission? And how will Smurf manage to get herself out of prison? Also, Denis Leary joins the cast for season three, so I’m looking forward to seeing what awaits the Cody crime family this season!

On tonight’s premiere, “The Killing,” Baz fights for his life as the Cody boys figure out their next move in the aftermath of the shooting; Smurf gets some surprising news in jail and fields an offer from Pearce.

Catch up with life with the Codys tonight on TNT at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Arrested Development, Legion, Chrisley Knows Best, and 100 Code.

World of Dance premiered last week, and I wasn’t sure exactly what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. Jennifer Lopez was endearing, Ne-Yo was sexy as usual, and Derek Hough is amusing – even though I’m not his biggest fan yet. All of that aside, the dancers were incredible, and I was floored by the level of talent. Another great part of this competition is the way they are scoring it more like a real dance competition, and that makes it more fair in my opinion. I’m looking forward to seeing what this season brings.

On tonight’s episode, “The Qualifiers Round 2,” the world’s elite dance acts from all ages and dance genres enter the “World Of Dance” arena to face off in the challenge of a lifetime. The acts have one chance to showcase their artistry, precision, and athleticism in order to move forward in the competition and ultimately win a grand prize of $1 million dollars.

To watch more talented dancers face off, tune in to NBC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching America’s Got Talent, Chopped, and Chopped Junior.

I know… What we don’t need is another reality competition show – especially singing or dancing. But World of Dance is a little bit different in how the competition works, and the first episode – which I’ve seen – at least, is a lot of fun. There are three divisions to the competition: Junior (any size act, 17 years old & under), Upper (groups of 1-4, 18 years old & over), & Team (groups of 5+ dancers, all 18 years old & over). There’s no limit to the kind of dancing, from hip-hop, ballet, ballroom, stomping, & more. The judges use a point system created by the dance brand World of Dance (which is in partnership with the show and obviously where the name for the show itself came from), in which they score performance, technique, choreography, creativity, and presentation. In the first four rounds, dancers compete within their division, but in the fifth and final, the World Final round, the winner from each division will compete against each other for the grand prize of $1 million and the title “Best in the World.”

So the competition itself is a little bit different and going to be very fun. Jennifer Lopez, NE-YO, and Derek Hough (mega-winner pro dancer from Dancing with the Stars) will be at the judges’ table, with Jenna Dewan Tatum set as host/mentor. I actually really enjoyed all three in the premiere. They all have good, constructive criticism and seem to know what they’re talking about, which doesn’t always happen on some competition shows. All in all, I have hopes that the judges, along with how they score the dancers and how the dancers are split into divisions will make this an enjoyable series.

On tonight’s episode, “The Qualifiers 1,” elite dance acts from all ages and dance genres enter the arena to showcase their artistry, precision, and athleticism to move forward in the competition.

Check out the start of this new competition series tonight on NBC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing America’s Got Talent, Chopped Junior, Prison Break, & Chopped.
