TV News – 01/11/09

Monday and there’s quite a bit of news so let’s get started.

It’s official, Simon Cowell is leaving American Idol after this season. Cowell signed his contract for X Factor at the Television Critic Association Press Tour this morning. The X Factor will begin in fall 2011 and although some are worried that American Idol will not succeed without Cowell, he doesn’t feel that’s the case. “I’m confident it will continue to be the No.1 show” I know we all saw this coming and I reported on it before, but it’s official now, so how do we all feel about this? Honestly, I’m not sure the show will survive without him, but if anyone can help the show it will be Ellen DeGeneres. Source

More after the jump.

Glee has been renewed for a second season! Not that there was much doubt but now it’s official. 😀 On top of that news, FOX is going to be doing a nationwide casting search this February to fill three new roles. “Auditions will be open to amateur individuals as well as professionals between the ages of 16-26, and all hopefuls will be able to submit auditions online.” That’s not all, the audition process is then going to be made into a reality special to air at the end of the summer. Excited? If you’re going to audition you better get yourself ready! Source

Speaking of Glee, Olivia Newton-John is going to be making a special guest appearance when the show returns from hiatus. While the specifics of her role are not being told, Ryan Murphy said that she’ll be singing Physical with the hilarious Jane Lynch. I CANNOT wait for this. Source

Ausiello has some aggravating bits of spoiler-ish news for us regarding Bones, I read them because I can’t help it. I’ll admit they are intriguing and involve Bells so if you want to read go here. If you don’t like spoilers then DO NOT click the link.

CBS has made it official on the TCA press tour that Three Rivers has been cancelled. In the words of CBS president Nina Tassler “We all know that when something is ‘on hiatus’ it’s code for something else,”. I’m sad with this news as I really enjoyed this show, especially Alex O’Loughlin. Hopefully he’ll get right back up and find a show that stays on TV for a long time. *fingers crossed* Source Source

It appears that Conan O’Brien is not happy with the changes going on over at NBC. According to The New York Post, Conan is tossing around ideas of moving to FOX, if they push his show to 12:05 pm. Jay Leno is funny but Conan is too, however, I don’t know if either one of them can save NBC no matter what time slot they’re in. Source

Breaking Bad will be returning on Sunday, March 21st. The second season will allow us to find out what happened after the plane crash. AMC will be running a Breaking Bad marathon on Friday, March 19th to get us ready for the premiere. This show is a great show, and I think that it’s going to just get better and better. Source

It’s hard to believe but Family Guy will be airing it’s 150th episode on May 2nd on FOX. The episode will centre on my two favorite characters, Brian and Stewie, while they try to escape being locked in a bank vault. Sometimes Family Guy is a little offside but other times you can’t help but laugh. Congrats to the cast and crew of the show for 10 years of making us laugh. Source

That’s all for today but don’t miss the 100th episode of How I Met Your Mother at 8 pm on CBS tonight! It’s going to be fantabulous!
