TV News – 01/21/09

It’s been a busy week around here, and the TV news is no exception so let’s get to it.

It’s official, Conan O’Brien is no longer going to host The Tonight Show. The network and Conan reached a deal for a rumoured $45 million, that gives Jay Leno The Tonight Show back and gives Conan the right to explore other avenues as of September 1, 2010. His last show will be this Friday, January 22nd, and I am sad. I really enjoyed Conan’s run, and he’s actually been even funnier since this whole debacle started. NBC released this short statement,

“NBC and Conan O’Brien have reached a resolution of the issues surrounding O’Brien’s contract to host The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien. Under terms of an agreement that was signed earlier today, NBC and O’Brien will settle their contractual obligations and the network will release O’Brien from his contract, freeing him to pursue other opportunities after September 1, 2010. O’Brien will make his final appearance as host of The Tonight Show on January 22.”

Leno will take over on March 1st.I’m not a Leno fan, never have been, and the only good thing that comes from this whole mess is that we are getting more scripted programming at 10 pm, including more episodes of Trauma, Law & Order: SVU and the new drama, Parenthood. Farewell Conan, and for me farewell to The Tonight Show. Source

Ausiello is serving up some delicious spoilers in the latest edition of Ask Ausiello. There are details on Lost, True Blood and Glee. As always if you don’t like spoilers then don’t click the link, everyone else proceed forward. Beware SPOILERS AHEAD!

What is with all these people I like leaving their series? Now Rob Lowe is leaving Brothers and Sisters and ABC is talking about giving him his own franchise. Lowe feels that his character is being “under-utilized” and wanted to be let out of his contract. Just when Kitty (Calista Flockhart) and Robert (Lowe’s character) were getting back on track, this happens. *sigh* Do you think that the show will suffer from Lowe’s exit? What about his own franchise? I’m not sure I like him that much but we’ll see what they offer us. Source

Clark’s mom is returning to Smallville. Annette O’Toole who plays Martha Kent is set to return later this season, the precise moment I’m not sure but probably during May. It may only be one episode, maybe more, but I’m happy with this. I really loved this character and every boy needs his mom, even super heroes! 🙂 Source

That’s it for today, be sure to check out my post on the contestants of The Amazing Race 16 and don’t miss all new episodes of Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice and the new comer The Deep End tonight on ABC starting at 8 pm. Enjoy!
