Megan’s birthday was yesterday (Happy birthday, Megan!), so she had a party last night with her family & friends…ergo she wasn’t awake enough to participate in today’s Remote. But Kyle & I are here to entertain you, so check out what we’re recommending. *grin*
A few years ago, I had a friend who lived in Australia and was able to get me episodes of a show that aired there, called The Block. Teams of two had to renovate apartments in a single building (and later on, separate houses, rather than apartments in the same building), living in the space as they renovated. It was a great show, and my husband & I loved it. FYI just started a series a few weeks ago called Rowhouse Showdown, with a similar concept, except they aren’t living in the houses they’re renovating, which is honestly one of the best parts of the Australian series.
So when HGTV started advertising their latest series, Flipping the Block, I was really excited, especially when I learned it’s the same format as the Australian series. Four teams move into identical living spaces, where they will demo the place and make over the entire home before it goes on the auction block. The winning duo keeps the return on investment, along with a $50,000 cash prize. They’ll be mentored by David Bromstad (first winner of Design Star), Nicole Curtis (Rehab Addict), & Scott McGillivray (Income Property). It should be a lot of fun seeing the pain the teams will have to go through as they live in the messes they’re renovating!
On tonight’s episode, “Welcome to the Block,” four teams are tasked with the job of renovating a dilapidated condo complex for resale in only eight weeks. Their first challenge is to redesign a master bedroom from the floor to the ceiling, and the winner receives $5,000.
See the spaces the teams have to move into and find out who wins the first prize money tonight on HGTV at 9/8c.
I’ll also be watching/DVRing Guy’s Grocery Games, Food Network Star, The Last Ship, The Musketeers, Unforgettable, Cutthroat Kitchen, Frankenfood, & Reckless.

Tonight, Lifetime is expanding its Sunday night genre lineup with the premiere of the new futuristic thriller, The Lottery. It is the year 2025, and in this dystopian future, women have somehow become infertile. Years have gone by, and mankind is on the brink of extinction, until Dr. Alison Lennon (Marley Shelton) and her medical research team have a breakthrough and are able to fertilize 100 embryos. The president decides to hold a national lottery in order to determine the 100 lucky women who will carry these embryos to term, but this doesn’t sit well with some folks. And so a battle begins to brew over who should have control over the fate of humanity.
The series is written by Timothy J. Sexton, who also write the similarly-themed Children of Men. Some are even referring to this series as a prequel to the film, which takes place just two years later. It sounds like a really interesting premise, and I’m looking forward to checking out tonight’s premiere. The cast also includes Michael Graziadei (American Horror Story), David Alpay (The Vampire Diaries), Athena Karkanis (Low Winter Sun), Yul Vasquez (Magic City), Shelley Conn (Terra Nova), and Martin Donovan (Homeland).
On tonight’s episode, “Pilot,” Dr. Alison Lennon fertilizes 100 eggs and convinces the president to hold a national lottery to see who will carry the prized embryos to term. Unfortunately, a battle over the control of the embryos begins.
To see how it all begins, tune in to Lifetime at 10/9c.
I’ll also be watching/recording Big Brother, The Strain, Guy’s Grocery Games, Food Network Star, The Last Ship, Falling Skies, Halt and Catch Fire, True Blood, The Leftovers, Ray Donovan, and Masters of Sex.
