Tonight is the series premiere of BattleBots on ABC at 9/8c. The robot shrapnel will fly in the BattleBox this summer, with expert play-by-play analysis from veteran sports broadcaster Chris Rose, and color commentary from former UFC fighter Kenny Florian. The show is hosted by celebrated sports anchor Molly McGrath. Covering every inch of the epic robot fighting competition are sideline reporters Allison Haislip and NASA engineer Bobak Ferdowsi. Judging each battle are former BattleBots competitor and special effects artist Fon Davis, NASA astronaut Leland Melvin, and the face of Nerdist Jessica Chobot. Ring announcer Faruq Tauheed will preside as the bots go metal-a-metal.

Tonight is also the 2-hour series premiere of Big Crazy Family Adventure on Travel Channel at 9/8c. Trekking through the Himalaya (with a short stop at Mt. Everest’s base camp), sailing the Ganges River, crossing the North Pacific Ocean on a container ship, meditating with monks in a Tibetan monastery — these are not the typical activities you might expect during a family vacation with two young children. But the Kirkby family is on an extraordinary adventure halfway around the globe — and inviting everyone to come along. The show follows wilderness guide, writer and award-winning photographer Bruce Kirkby throughout this epic trip — from his home in Kimberley, British Columbia, to a remote monastery in the Himalaya — with his wife, Christine Pitkanen, and their two young boys: Bodi, 7 and Taj, 3. There’s just one catch: on their 13,000-mile adventure they won’t be taking ANY airplanes. To fully experience the life-changing and serendipitous moments that exploring the world provides, they’ll get to their final destination through surface travel only — canoe, container ship, ferry, high-speed train, river boat, tuk tuk, pony, their own eight feet, and more.

Tonight is also the series premiere of Poldark on PBS at 9/8c. Set in the picturesque, seaside county of Cornwall, Poldark follows a rough-and-ready hero with nothing to lose as he tries to restore his community, fortune, and family name. It’s 1783, and Britain is in a crisis of falling wages, rising goods prices, and civil unrest. Dashing, adventurous scoundrel Ross Poldark (Aidan Turner) returns from fighting overseas to find his world dramatically changed: his family estate is in ruins, his father has died, and his sweetheart is engaged to another. Though he is encouraged to pack up and make a new life elsewhere, the stubborn Poldark resolves to change his destiny and restore his lost fortune. As he assembles a motley band of friends and servants, Ross finds a partner equally headstrong to share the twists and turns of his new life. But changing the status quo of this country hamlet creates powerful enemies, and soon Ross is caught between what he knows to be right, and what society dictates. Poldark is based on the first two novels in Winston Graham’s sweeping 18th-century saga. The first television adaptation of the series aired on MASTERPIECE in the 1970s, and now a new generation can delight in the exploits of a romantic hero like no other. The series stars Aidan Turner, known for roles in The Hobbit trilogy, and the UK series Being Human. Eleanor Tomlinson, recently seen in MASTERPIECE’s Death Comes to Pemberley, co-stars as the fiery redhead Demelza.

Tonight is also the series premiere of Ballers on HBO at 10/9c. Spencer is a retired football superstar who is trying to reinvent himself as a financial manager for current players in sunsoaked Miami. His inner circle includes Ricky, a talented but volatile wide receiver who seeks to balance his off-field antics with his passion for the game; Charles, a reluctantly retired lineman who’s finding it hard to adjust to civilian life; and Vernon, a player with a rookie contract, whose promise never to forget “where he came from” brings scores of hangers-on into his life, and lands him in big financial trouble. Though they’re pros when it comes to playing the game, each one has a harder time navigating life off the field. The show stars Donovan Carter, Dwayne Johnson, Jazmyn Simon, John David Washington, London Brown, Omar Miller, Rob Corddry, & Troy Garity.

Tonight is also the series premiere of The Crimson Field on PBS at 10/9c. Oona Chaplin (Game of Thrones, The Hour) stars in a drama about WWI’s frontline medics — their hopes, fears, triumphs, and tragedies. In a tented field hospital on the coast of France, a team of doctors, nurses and women volunteers works together to heal the bodies and souls of men wounded in the trenches. The hospital is a frontier: between the battlefield and home front, but also between the old rules, hierarchies and a new way of thinking. Each of the six episodes follows the lives of volunteer nurses Kitty Trevelyan (Chaplin) and Sister Joan Livesey (Suranne Jones) as they tend to British soldiers, troops from all over the world and even local civilians. Also starring Hermione Norris, Kevin Doyle, Kerry Fox, and Marianne Oldham.

Finally, tonight is the series premiere of The Brink on HBO at 10:30/9:30c. A new half-hour dark comedy series, The Brink focuses on a geopolitical crisis and its effect on three disparate and desperate men: Walter Larson (played by Tim Robbins), the US Secretary of State; Alex Talbot (Jack Black), a lowly Foreign Service officer; and Zeke Tilson (Pablo Schreiber), an ace Navy fighter pilot. These three compromised souls must pull through the chaos around them to save the planet from World War Three. The show also features Aasif Mandvi, Maribeth Monroe, Carla Gugino and Eric Ladin.

Tonight is the series premiere of Forged in Fire on History Channel at 10/9c. The show features world-class bladesmiths competing against each other to create some of the most iconic edged weapons from history. In each episode, four of the best bladesmiths in the country will come together to put both their skills and reputations on the line. Whether they are making a Japanese katana, a medieval broadsword, or an ancient throwing blade like the chakram, the weapons they forge will be fully functional and lethal works of art and war. The unique histories contained within each weapon will be creatively told during the forging process and the final weapons themselves will be assessed and ruthlessly tested by our panel of expert judges. These dynamic and explosive tests will be individually designed to push the weapons to their absolute limit. One by one, the bladesmiths will be eliminated until only one remains to be crowned the champion. Wil Willis, a former Army Ranger and decorated Air Force para-rescue specialist, hosts, while the judges are J. Neilson (Mastersmith bladesmith), Doug Marcaida (an edged weapon combat specialist, martial artist, and designer of some of the world’s deadliest blades), and David Baker (world-renowned swordsmith).

Tonight is the series premiere of Leepu & Pitbull on History Channel at 10/9c. The show follows master mechanic “Pitbull” Steve and renowned Bangladeshi car designer, Leepu, as they transform heaps of metal into a cash-producing business venture. Each week a customer with a beloved clunker, great story and small budget asks this odd couple to convert their bucket of bolts into a cool custom car. In this high-risk and high-octane undertaking, it’s up to Leepu & Pitbull to turn their differences into inspiration…as they MacGuyver fixes to build winning wheels, satisfy the customer and rev up the riches.

Tonight is also the series premiere of Another Period on Comedy Central at 10:30/9:30c. Before others claimed their fame, there was one American family that stood for all that was spoiled, shameless and stupid. Meet the Bellacourts — Newport, RI’s first family of the Gilded Age. They are The Original Ballers. They have tons of money, live in a big-ass mansion and employ a whole team of Fonzworth Bentleys. However, the Bellacourts’ servants have to do a lot more than hold umbrellas. The original out of touch reality family is coming to Comedy Central in Another Period, a turn-of-the-century historical and satirical scripted series that follows the insanely ridiculous and debaucherous life of the Bellacourts, who have more servants than relatives and whose days are filled with money, sex, drugs and more money. The show centers on the Bellacourt sisters, Lillian (Natasha Leggero) and Beatrice (Riki Lindhome), who only care about being rich and becoming super famous (which is a lot harder in 1902). Lauren Ash, Michael Ian Black, Paget Brewster, Beth Dover, Brett Gelman, Christina Hendricks, Brian Huskey, David Koechner, Jason Ritter, David Wain, and Armen Weitzman will appear alongside Leggero and Lindhome.

Tonight is the series premiere of Boom! on FOX at 8/7c. This is a general knowledge quiz show that challenges teams of three players to defuse the game show’s ticking slime-bombs, by cutting the wires relating to the correct answers and leaving the wrong answers untouched. Get it right, and the players win big money. Get it wrong and, after a tense countdown, the slime-bombs detonate, showering the players – and portions of the audience – with mystery goop that could be anything from guacamole to mashed potatoes, forcing the players out of the game. As the game progresses and teams successfully defuse the slime-bombs, the prize money builds and the questions get harder. After six tense rounds of questions, players can choose to walk away with their winnings or to take on the more challenging “Mega Money Bomb Round” during which they stand to win up to $500,000. One mistake, and not only do they lose half of their money, but the team is in for the biggest slime blast yet. Answer correctly, and the Mega Money Bomb could be filled with cold hard cash!

Tonight is also the series premiere of American Takedown on A&E at 10/9c. This is a documentary series showcasing highly specialized tactical law enforcement units across the U.S. that protect and serve against some of the most cunning and dangerous criminals in the country. The series gives an inside look at the unique and critical work that America’s top investigators, specialists and agents carry out to keep our nation safe. Each week, a different police force and the crime worlds they investigate will be profiled. The cases featured will include Utah’s S.E.C.U.R.E. Strike Force’s probe into a resident procuring fake government papers for undocumented immigrant workers; the Florida Department of Financial Services’ Auto Fraud Squad’s inquiry into a local insurance fraud ring being run out of a chiropractor’s office; and the Humane Society of the United States’ investigation of a man suspected of breeding, training, and selling dogs for dog fights in Tennessee.
