Recap/Review – Crazy Ex-Girlfriend – 12/9/16

This week’s episode of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (titled: “Who’s the Cool Girl Josh Is Dating?”) showed the lengths Rebecca and Valencia would go to get what they wanted.

Recap:

Josh & Anna
Josh and Anna have been dating for a few weeks, and it seems all is going well. When they go to a hipster coffee joint, we learn that Josh is falling hard for Anna while she’s still debating her feelings for him. She appears to be perfect in every way.

Rebecca & Valencia
Rebecca, Valencia, and Heather are hanging out at their place with all eyes glued to their computer screens. Rebecca and Valencia pretend they aren’t cyber-stalking Josh, but when they see him kissing Anna in an Instagram photo, they both have similar strong reactions. Heather warns the girls that “curiosity killed the cat,” and they completely ignore her warning and decide to take their stalking to the streets after a song called “Research Me Obsessively,” sung by Brittany Snow AKA Anna.

Rebecca and Valencia case the eyebrow salon that Anna owns. They see her passing a white substance to her clients and believe she is dealing drugs out of her business and think Josh is in danger. When they leave, Rebecca runs over something…Anna’s cat, Gravy. Rebecca and Valencia accompany Anna to the vet’s office to get Gravy’s tail reattached. They find out how Josh really feels about his exes. And when Anna reveals she’s going to find the person who ran over the cat (since the girls told Anna it was a Jack Sparrow lookalike), they realize they’re going to be caught very soon. They break into Anna’s salon to erase the security footage of them while also investigating her passing along drugs to her customers. Rebecca lip-reads the conversations between Anna and her customers and realizes she’s giving them a solution to make their eyebrows grow, not cocaine. When Rebecca and Valencia unwind at Home Base, Valencia leaves Rebecca to get laid. Rebecca is left alone and missing Paula.

Rebecca & Paula
Paula and Rebecca are still ignoring each other at work, and Paula throws herself into her studies. Paula is distracted and becomes a little self-absorbed. She ends up offending Sunil by cutting him off whenever he wants to talk about his life and misses Scott’s important barbershop quartet concert. Paula and Scott fight, and he leaves to go to the bar with his friend. When Paula tries calling Sunil, he’s too busy with his kids. This leaves Paula missing Rebecca too. Rebecca and Paula sing a duet, “You Go First,” which is an amazing throwback to 80s girl groups, complete with awful poofy hair. We realize at this point, Rebecca and Paula forgive each other, but neither wants to be the first to make the move.

Review:

Overall, this episode was one of the lighter ones in my opinion. I think the writers set up a lot of questions for when the show continues. In my mind, I see Josh starting to have more feelings for Anna while she doesn’t want to take the relationship further, since she’s enjoying his company. I think a reunion between Rebecca and Paula is inevitable, but they need a little more time apart until they get there. And there was a hint of an office romance between Scott and his co-worker, especially since she hadn’t missed the performance and she was in the front row supporting him. I guess we will have to wait until next year to get more of Crazy Ex!

Since this was the midseason finale, the next episode will air in January. Join me then for the recap/review of the next new episode of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, which airs Friday, Jan. 6, on The CW at 9/8c.
