Tonight is the series premiere of The Defiant Ones on HBO at 9/8c. Set amid many of the defining events of the past four decades, The Defiant Ones tells the stories of Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre — one the son of a Brooklyn longshoreman, the other straight out of Compton — and their improbable partnership and surprising leading roles in a series of transformative events in contemporary culture. From director Allen Hughes (Menace II Society), this revealing, compelling and often-gritty story takes place in recording studios, in humble homes and massive mansions, in criminal courts and in the highest corridors of corporate power. Hughes shows how decades of defiance and determination helped Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre build a few empires, make a series of American dreams come true and transform two American street kids from different tough neighborhoods into a global force to be reckoned with. This epic look at America shows how you can consistently defy conventional wisdom and even logic, and still win big. The four-part documentary event is told with the help of many of the most notable artists and figures of our time, reflecting Hughes’ unfettered access to Iovine, Dre and the remarkable cast of figures who have been a part of their success story. In addition to extensive interviews with Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine, who speak frankly about their highs and lows, the show includes interviews with such music icons as Bono, David Geffen, Eminem, Nas, Ice Cube, Gwen Stefani, Jon Landau, Tom Petty, Trent Reznor, Snoop Dogg, Bruce Springsteen and will.i.am. The series also features never-before-seen footage from a multitude of recording and writing sessions with Eazy-E, JJ Fad, Stevie Nicks, N.W.A., Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen and U2, among others.

Tonight is also the series premiere of Candy Crush on CBS at 9:02/8:02c. The game that has become a worldwide phenomenon comes to life as teams of two people use their wits and physical agility to compete on enormous, interactive game boards featuring next generation technology to conquer Candy Crush and be crowned the champions. Mario Lopez hosts.

Tonight is also the series premiere of The Spouse House on TLC at 10/9c. For people who long to be married but haven’t been able to find “the one” by traditional means, this could be the opportunity of a lifetime. Each participant arrives at the “Spouse House” single and full of hope that they will find and marry their life partner. If they seize the moment, are vulnerable and open to love, they’ll leave married; otherwise, they’ll leave the same way they came in: single and alone. The seven men and seven women will all live together for eight weeks while two relationship experts, clinical psychologist Dr. Isaiah Pickens and relationship coach Christine Hassler, guide and help them find their husband or wife. During each episode, viewers will follow the singles throughout the week as they strengthen their relationships and get to know each other better in an accelerated environment through various activities. Culminating with the Engagement Ceremony, all the singles come together with the experts to talk about their growing relationships with the hope of ending with a proposal and ultimately a wedding. The group session helps build conflict resolution skills and assess compatibility while also encouraging suitors to reveal their inner thoughts and vulnerabilities. If there is no proposal, an eviction will take place and new compatible singles will move into the “Spouse House.” The couples who marry will remain living in the house as newlyweds continuing to interact with the remaining singles and receiving advice from the experts.

Finally, tonight is the series premiere of Apollo Gauntlet on Cartoon Network at 12:15AM/11:15PMc. Inspired by He-Man, Mystery Science Theater 3000, and the work of David Lynch, self-taught, independent Canadian animator Myles Langlois created Apollo Gauntlet, a quarter-hour animated adventure comedy series set in a futuristic medieval society. The series centers around Paul Cassidy, an ordinary cop on Earth, but when the evil Dr. Benign transports him to another world, he becomes a new kind of hero. With the help of a magical suit and a set of talking gauntlets, he’s able to fight crime exactly the way he wants…and he’ll do it as APOLLO GAUNTLET!

Herman Mudgett, alias H.H. Holmes, was America’s first serial killer rumored to have claimed as many as 200 lives in the late 19th century. Simultaneously, an unidentified murderer known as Jack the Ripper was terrorizing the streets of London. Mudgett leads an investigation that secured permission to exhume the presumed body of H.H. Holmes for DNA testing to determine whether he pulled off the ultimate con, escaping his own execution to lead a second secret life.

Everything is fair game, including infidelity, dishonesty, and true feelings about the in-laws. Over 30 days, the three couples will live together and see if they can use these questions to finally get to the truth. Damona Hoffman, relationship expert and certified dating coach, will offer guidance and mentor the couples throughout. At the end of the month, each will decide whether they will remain in the relationship or call it quits.
