Overnight last night was the series premiere of The Gulf on Sundance Now. The drama centres around the moral disintegration of Detective Jess Savage, who finds herself caught between upholding the legal justice system, and morality, as she investigates crimes on her home patch of Waiheke Island, New Zealand.

Tonight is the series premiere of Man vs. Bear on Discovery Channel at 9/8c. For thousands of years, grizzly bears have stood at the top of the evolutionary food chain with unchallenged dominance. Now for the first time ever, humans will be entering the bears’ territory and take them on in a competition like never attempted. Each week, three grizzlies — Bart, Honey Bump and Tank — will take on three new human competitors at their Utah sanctuary to test the limits of strength, speed, and stamina. All challenges will be based on the bears’ natural instincts as well as predatory skills and actions — whether it’s engaging in a monumental game of “tug of war” or using brute force to roll giant logs. Bart is the largest, most powerful grizzly on the mountain with no other bears matching his strength and versatility. Topping the pack as the fastest is Honey Bump, who is the only female on Bear Mountain. She brings a level of ferocity and predatory instinct that her male counterparts cannot beat. Bart and Honey Bump were orphaned as cubs and discovered by an Alaska State Trooper. After a nationwide search for a loving home for the rescued cubs, they were adopted by caretakers Doug and Lynne Seus. Along with Tank — known for his voracious appetite — the Seus’ have raised and cared for all three bears for two decades on a sprawling section of protected land. Each episode will include five distinct challenges inspired by what bears do naturally in the wild, pushing these brave men and women to their absolute limits. In the final round, the top two competitors will come face-to-face with Bart, who stands 8 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 1,400 pounds. The human competitor who earns the most points of the day will be named champion. But the competition isn’t over yet. At the end of the season, the top three competitors with the most points will return one more time for the super-human showdown against the bears.

Tonight is also the series premiere of The Moodys on FOX at 9/8c. The show follows a tight-knit, but slightly dysfunctional family of five, all of whom gather in their hometown of Chicago for the “perfect” holiday. From break-ups to arrests to sharing one bathroom, each family member is packing his/her own eccentricities and hiding secrets from the others — as if the holidays were all about carols and eggnog! The family includes Sean Sr. (Denis Leary, Rescue Me), his wife, Ann (Elizabeth Perkins, Weeds, Sharp Objects), and their three grown children – Dan (Francois Arnaud, The Borgias), the youngest of the siblings and the “creative one”; Bridget (Chelsea Frei, Sideswiped), the middle sister and the “overachiever”; and Sean Jr. (Jay Baruchel, Man Seeking Woman, the How to Train Your Dragon franchise), the oldest sibling and “screw-up,” still living at home with his parents. The series also features Maria Gabriela de Faria (Deadly Class), Josh Segarra (Arrow), Kevin Bigley (Sirens), Gerry Dee (Mr. D), Ulka Simone Mohanty (The Dinner Bash), and Megan Park (The Secret Life of the American Teenager).

Tonight is also the series premiere of Five Day Biz Fix on CNBC at 10/9c. Husband and wife team Chrissy and Erik Kopplin are experts at re-imagining small businesses from top to bottom with one objective in mind – to increase revenue. In this six-episode series, Chrissy and Erik rely on their years of high-end retail design experience and construction know-how to overhaul a wide range of brick and mortars in just five days – because their clients can’t afford to shut down for weeks on end. From a hair salon in Manhattan, to an independent bookstore in Brooklyn, to a bowling alley in New Jersey, Chrissy and Erik find new ways for them to generate profit and get immediate, tangible results.
