stitchers62smallI’m not a fan of a lot of shows on ABC Family, but their latest, Stitchers, is definitely on the “must-watch” side. The show follows Kirsten (newcomer Emma Ishta), a young woman recruited into a covert government agency to be “stitched” into the minds of the recently deceased, using their memories to investigate murders and decipher mysteries that otherwise would have gone to the grave. Working alongside Kirsten is Cameron (Kyle Harris, Carrie Diaries), a brilliant neuroscientist whose passion for the program is evident in his work. The secret program is headed by Maggie (Salli Richardson-Whitfield, Eureka), a skilled veteran of covert operations, and includes Linus (Ritesh Rajan, upcoming Jungle Book), a socially immature bioelectrical engineer and communications technician. Kirsten’s roommate, Camille (Allison Scagliotti, Warehouse 13), a gifted computer science grad student, is also recruited to use her skills to assist Kirsten in her new role as a “stitcher.”

I’ve seen the first two episodes, and it’s really fantastic. Kirsten reminds me of Brennan on Bones, in that her sense of humor is…well…pretty much nonexistent. That in and of itself is funny. But it also makes the surrounding cast important, and thankfully, that’s not a problem. I adore Cameron (like, huge new TV crush), Linus is extremely funny, Camille is fun and interesting (and I absolutely love Allison Scagliotti), and Salli Richardson-Whitfield is great as Kirsten’s new boss.

On tonight’s episode, “A Stitch in Time,” a young woman with a talent for technology joins a covert agency to solve crimes and mysteries by entering the minds of recently deceased individuals.

Don’t miss the premiere tonight on ABC Family at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing America’s Got Talent, Chrisley Knows Best, Hell’s Kitchen, Junk Food Flip, The Little Couple, Chopped, Royal Pains, Your Family or Mine, & I Can Do That.

youngandhungry325smallOne of my favorite new comedies last year was ABC Family’s Young & Hungry. Emily Osment plays Gabi, a young chef who applies to be the personal chef to Josh Kaminski, a dot com whiz and self-made millionaire, played by Jonathan Sadowski. During season one, we watched as Gabi quickly developed feelings for Josh, who was engaged to a rather vapid woman. At the end of the season, Josh realized he had feelings for Gabi as well *just in time* to cancel his wedding, but when he went to her apartment to confess those feelings, he saw through the window as Gabi and her ex-boyfriend, Cooper, reunited. Fade to black, that’s how the season ended. It was frustrating as all get-out for us Josh and Gabi shippers! LOL

This season picks up pretty much where season one ended. Jesse McCartney is back as Cooper for several episodes, so it’ll be interesting to see where and how far they take things with Gabi and Cooper. Also returning this season are Aimee Carrero as Gabi’s roommate and best friend Sofia, Kym Whitley as housekeeper Yolanda, and Rex Lee as personal assistant Elliot. I loved Yolanda and Rex, who were both hysterical last season, so I’m glad they’re back!

On tonight’s episode, “Young & Too Late,” Gabi is freaking out about why Josh called the wedding off and searches for a sign if she should be with him or Cooper (recurring guest star Jesse McCartney), but it’s Sofia who makes a surprising discovery. Meanwhile, Elliot has a big date with the wedding florist (guest star Miguel Pinzon) and ends up bringing a forlorn Josh along.

To see how uncomfortable things can get between Gabi & Josh, tune in to ABC Family at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing The Mysteries of Laura, The Goldbergs, Criminal Minds, Law & Order: SVU, Modern Family, Mystery Diners, black-ish, Best New Restaurant, Chicago PD, CSI: Cyber (one of my favorite episodes of the season so far!), Hot in Cleveland, & The Soul Man.

scorpion323smallMy pick tonight is the new episode of Scorpion, which is back after having last week off. On the last new episode, the world was on the verge of WWIII if three Eastern European countries couldn’t come to a peace treaty. The leaders of each of the countries met in the US, and Scorpion was there to help hide the fact that those leaders weren’t still at home in their own countries. In the end, when one of the leaders was poisoned, Scorpion was able to not only figure out who did it and which snake’s venom they used, but after Walter forced a snakebite on himself, they were able to get the correct snake and fix an anti-venom for it. Both Walter and the foreign leader were saved, and the three leaders signed a peace treaty with no one being the wiser about how close it had come to war.

Highlights of the episode include Walter, Paige, and Happy stealing a taco truck, Happy kissing Toby, learning Cabe has a secret about the software Walter invented when he was a kid—he had more to do with the way it was used than Walter thinks, maybe?—and Walter nearly spilling to Paige as he was nearly delusional from the snake’s venom about the Valentine’s date he’d planned, as well as him arranging it so Paige wouldn’t miss her final for her college class. And how cute was it when he said he was proud of her?

On tonight’s episode, “Young Hearts Spark Fire,” while on a mission to save lost hikers, Team Scorpion’s helicopter crashes, igniting a massive wildfire that quickly closes in on them. Also, Sylvester must help their injured pilot who is unable to make it to safer ground.

See how the team makes it out of the flames tonight on CBS at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing 2 Broke Girls, Mike & Molly, Food Fortunes, NCIS: LA, & Castle.

rizzoliisles310smallI’m really enjoying this second half of season 5 of Rizzoli & Isles. Last week, on the personal side of things, Jane was worried about her mom’s spending habits being out of control now that she had a new job. And with Angela getting three new credit cards and spending quite a bit like she was, I could see why Jane was worried. After Maura (at Jane’s behest) stepped in and tried to talk to Angela about it, Angela busted Maura on her own binge spending. The difference, to me, is that Maura can clearly afford it. She isn’t living beyond her means, even if she does spend way too much shopping for things that do nothing but sit in a closet. Still, in the end, Angela cut up two of the cards, promised that she would be responsible while still splurging every so often, and helped Maura pare down her closeted things. On the case side, Jane and Korsak investigated when a “green” clothing designer was killed. During their investigation, they thought at first that the victim was into something shady, then thought his wife was, but in the end, both of them were innocent. Then they thought they’d found the murderer when they came across the van that had been seen speeding away from the crime scene and a smell was coming from it, but it turned out to be filled with trash a PI had gathered as part of his cases. And that PI turned out to be innocent and actually a big help with not only finding the victim’s killer but getting him to confess. (And of course it turned out to be all about drugs…) I adored the PI because the chemistry between him & Jane was phenomenal. I do hope he comes back!

Next week is the 2-hour season finale, which makes me very sad. 🙁 But it’s already been renewed for season 6, so I’m happy about that! I just wish we didn’t have to wait several months at least for it to come back!

On tonight’s episode, “In Plain View,” after a man is found bludgeoned to death on the side of the road, Jane and the squad team up with another detective who believes he is hunting the same roadside killer. Meanwhile, Maura discovers she has had her identity stolen and recruits Angela to help track down the culprit.

See if Angela can find the identity thief and if the squad can catch the killer tonight on TNT at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Hell’s Kitchen, NCIS, Repeat After Me, 19 Kids & Counting, Married at First Sight: the First Year, NCIS: NOLA, Chicago Fire, Chopped, Restaurant Startup, & Cougar Town.

ellensdesignchallengesmallIt’s no surprise that I love design shows. I also love Ellen DeGeneres. So what happens when you combine those two things? Ellen’s Design Challenge, that’s what. In a six-episode series, six competitors will tackle challenges to sketch, design, and build interesting, fun, and functional furniture. A contest will go home each week, until the last competitor standing receives $100,000 and their work is featured in HGTV Magazine.

Ellen is really, really funny, so I hope she brings her sense of humor and fun to the show. I can’t wait to see the designs the contestants come up with.

On tonight’s episode, “Episode 1,” six furniture builders garnered from all over the U.S. gather at a workshop and meet their carpenters for the first time, along with a mystery gift that they must transform into a piece of furniture, and it does not take long for temperatures to rise.

See what the mystery gift is tonight on HGTV at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Tiny House Nation, Best. Ever., & Eye Candy.
