If We Controlled Your Remote… 8/25/13

Back to school shopping is exhausting—not to mention expensive. I feel like I’ve run a marathon getting ready to send the kids back to school, but boy am I ready for that day. Tonight, I’m going to soak my feet and relax after a day of errands and planning; so while I do that, let’s see what you should be watching.

cutthroatkitchensmallCutthroat Kitchen has quickly become a fun family show to watch. My teenage son and I love watching cooking shows together, and we are both loving this. There’s the cooking aspect, but the sabotage and competition are very interesting. Overall, if you love cooking shows but you also love a little bit of reality TV hype, you should definitely tune in to this.

On tonight’s episode, “Tac’o the Town,” the chefs are forced to make tacos with bologna; the chefs try to derail each other’s Eggs Benedict.

To see how these chefs can make the bologna taste good in a taco, tune in to Food Network at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching Unforgettable and Family Dance Off.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 8/11/13

I know, I’m running late this morning posting this. Blame life. 😉 Sick kid, horrible sleeping (me, not the kid), and that just means a slow Jenny in the morning. But we’re here now and ready to give you our opinions on what to watch during a full night of new TV. So read on! 😀

foodnetworkstar2013smallI have to go with the season finale of Food Network Star. Last week, Stacey got sent home, which I felt was a mistake, since she’d have been better than either of the two guys left in the competition. I know she wasn’t perfect—she had problems sounding and acting non-rehearsed during camera challenges—but when she got it right, she got it REALLY right. And I know I’d have preferred her show above either Rodney or Russell. Rodney’s constant “pie style” is rather grating on the ears (once or twice is fine, but I hear it way more than I should), and the same goes for Russell’s “culinary sins” bit. I will admit that their pilot presentations were better than I’d thought they would be…but to that end, Damaris knocked it out of the park for me. It was the most I’d enjoyed her the entire competition. I could tell she was doing what she really enjoyed. If she doesn’t win this thing tonight, I’ll be a monkey’s uncle. 😉

On tonight’s season finale, “America Picks a Star,” the results are in as America has voted to determine who will be the next Food Network Star. Before the winner is revealed, the finalists are back in the studio to tell all and view never-before-seen footage from the season. Bobby, Alton, and Giada each share their favorite moments during an emotional look back at remaining finalists’ journey to the finale. Then, suspense rises as the time comes to reveal who will walk away as the new Food Network Star.

Find out who wins tonight on Food Network at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Food Court Wars, Chopped, Cutthroat Kitchen, Iron Chef America (I don’t like Food Network at ALL, do I? LOL), Unforgettable, Whodunnit?, Brother vs Brother, & Crossing Lines.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 9/2/12

How was everyone’s Saturday? I had a pretty good day. Caught up on some sleep while my husband & son went to the movies in the morning, then played cards with my husband in the afternoon & again after dinner. I love long weekends! Especially because that means the weekend doesn’t end today. So check out what we think you should be watching tonight…and since you can stay up a little late, enjoy it all! (By the way, I’ve seen the season premiere of Castle, and there’s just one word for it: BRILLIANT. That is all.)

Last week’s Leverage spent about half the time as a flashback, much like the episode featuring Hardison and Parker as characters other than themselves & Van Gogh’s painting. Last week had to do with the famous D. B. Cooper hijacking case. McSweeten, the real FBI agent the team encountered in season 1 and a few times since, needed help to solve the one case his father, a former FBI agent, never could. Nate & Sophie played McSweeten’s parents, Parker played the stewardess in the plane that Cooper gave the hijacking note to & Eliot played the stewardess’s husband who became McSweeten Sr’s partner – and that’s who they determined was the hijacker. It was an fun episode, although I didn’t like it as much as I liked the Van Gogh ep simply because of the parallel to the Hardison/Parker relationship. And once again, I’m curious as to Nate’s (& Hardison’s) secret. Gah.

On tonight’s episode, “The Real Fake Car Job,” the crew decides to forge a story about an incredibly rare care in order to convince a Wall Street fraud to put an end to the loophole that is keeping him from being prosecuted by the courts for the crimes he has committed.

See the drama tonight on TNT at 10/9c. Learn where to find episodes online of Leverage @ Clicker.

Tonight, I’ll also be watching The Chew Presents ABC’s Primetime Fall Preview Special, Cupcake Wars, TV’s Most Dynamic Duos: Presented by The Paley Center for Media, The Great Food Truck Race, Iron Chef America, All American Handyman, One Car Too Far, & Copper.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 8/5/12

Here in Ontario, it has been ridiculously hot—to the point where you don’t even want to move because the effort is only going to make you pour sweat. I suppose it would help if my air conditioner was working, but hopefully by week’s end, I’ll have some working air. To keep my mind off the sweltering, disgusting, nauseating heat (what can I say, I hate the heat)—let’s take a look at what you should be watching tonight.

Speaking of hot, let’s talk about True Blood. What a season it has been so far! I say that not in a great way for once—what is with the weird fairy story line? I am hating it. The werewolves and pack stories are also really slow moving and boring to watch. If it wasn’t for the hot cast that makes me hot as can be every time they walk across my screen, I’d have stopped watching this season already. It must be bad if I, of all people, am willing to jump ship. Let’s hope the last couple episodes of the season are stellar and earn me back.

On tonight’s episode, “Everybody Wants to Rule the World,” the start of the vampire holy war is a cause for celebration for Salome and the Chancellors, but Eric may decide to go AWOL; Sookie learns more about her parents’ death from a deceased relative; Andy and Jason investigate the rise in shifter murders.

To see if the story lines get better, tune in to HBO at 9/8c. Learn where to find episodes online of True Blood @ Clicker.

Tonight, I’ll also be watching/DVRing The Great Escape, Iron Chef America, and Drop Dead Diva.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 7/29/12

The Olympics started Friday night with an amazing Opening Ceremony spectacle arranged by Academy Award winner Danny Boyle. (As long as you ignore that awful commentary by Matt Lauer and the gang.) With the games in full swing, it means some of the networks will be running reruns so they don’t have to compete—especially tonight, with gymnastics and swimming on NBC. So it’s an unusually light TV night for a Sunday! However, there’s still plenty of great shows on for those not interested in watching the Olympics. So read on to see what we suggest you check out tonight.

Last week on Breaking Bad, the DEA ascended on the German headquarters of Madrigal Electromotive. However, R&D head Peter Shuler used a defibrillator to kill himself before he could be arrested/interrogated. Back in the US, Jesse was consumed with worry that his missing Ricin cigarette was out there where some other little kid could find it. So Walt created a fake vial of Ricin for Jesse to find when they turned over his apartment. With Jesse now relieved, he and Walter met with Mike to see if he wanted to re-start the business with them. Mike was hesitant until he found out that the DEA had seized the offshore account Gus had set up for his granddaughter. Meanwhile, Lydia, a Madrigal board member, met with Mike, handing him a list of Gus’s employees she was afraid would talk to the DEA. Mike refused to kill his friends for her, so she hired someone else to start eliminating the potential witnesses. But when Lydia tried to have Mike taken out, he turned things around, killing her assassin. Mike spared Lydia’s life in exchange for her assistance in getting supplies for his new venture with Walt and Jesse.

I love how Breaking Bad cares about the small details that many other shows would just drop—like Jesse being consumed with the missing ricin cigarette and how Gus’s demise affects the folks at Madrigal. They seem to be making a concerted effort to leave absolutely nothing hanging by the end of the series. I can’t wait to see how this new venture between Mike, Walt, and Jesse plays out. Last week, there was a great moment when someone told Hank how all these people close to Gus had no idea what he was really up to—and then there was a close-up on his face. Does Hank suspect Walt at all? And if not, when will he? And Skyler is completely afraid of Walter now—lying in bed pretending to be asleep so she doesn’t have to talk with him. Will she make another run for the Four Corners? I love the slow, tense burn we are getting so far this season.

In tonight’s episode, “Hazard Pay,” Walt and Jesse formulate a new business plan; Walt shares a secret with Marie.

See the drama tonight on AMC at 10/9c. Learn where to find episodes online of Breaking Bad @ Clicker.

Tonight, I’ll also be watching/recording Big Brother, Chopped, Political Animals, True Blood, The Newsroom, Weeds, and Episodes.
