John C. McGinley, Deborah Baker Jr.Tonight, the new horror-comedy series Stan Against Evil premieres on IFC. Sheriff Stan Miller (John C. McGinley, Scrubs, Ground Floor) is forced into retirement after an uncontrolled outburst. However, a plague of angry demons falls upon the small New Hampshire town, which was built on a 17th century witch-burning site. So he begrudgingly teams up with his young replacement, Evie Barret (Janet Varney, You’re the Worst) to keep the evil forces at bay. The series is written by comedian Dana Gould and also stars Nate Mooney (American Odyssey) and Deborah Baker Jr.

I haven’t seen this series yet, but I really like John C. McGinley, who is perfect for this kind of gruff, bitter-guy role. And based on the promos, it looks like this series will contain that same fun mix of horror and comedy that makes shows like Ash vs Evil Dead so entertaining. I can’t wait to check out tonight’s special one-hour premiere.

On tonight’s premiere, “Dig Me Up Dig Me Down; Know, Know, Know Your Goat,” a disgraced small-town sheriff teams with his replacement to battle demons. Then Stan’s daughter brings home a goat that is really an ancient hircine demon.

Catch the one-hour series premiere tonight on IFC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Survivor, Criminal Minds, Blindspot, Lethal Weapon, Empire, Arrow, Frequency, Worst Cooks in America, You’re the Worst, Younger, and Impastor.

survivor2016smallSurvivor kicks off its 32nd competition tonight on CBS, as eighteen new castaways embark on a grueling 39-day game of trying to outwit, outplay, and outlast the rest of the competition in order to win $1 million. This season, the show is trying the Brains vs. Brawn vs. Beauty format again, and hopefully this time the Brains team can last a bit longer before they start cannibalizing themselves! While there aren’t any returning contestants this year, there may be some familiar faces: Big Brother fans may recognize “Beast Mode Cowboy” Caleb, who joins the Beauty tribe; and sports fans may recognize former NBA champion Scot Pollard, who is part of the Brawn tribe. Looking at the photos of these contestants, I always wonder where they draw the line between “beauty” and “brawn,” because the Beauty team looks quite fit. The rest of the cast includes a poker player, a contractor, a body builder, a personal trainer, a former FBI agent, an ER doctor, a bounty hunter, a postal worker, a bartender, a computer programmer, a chemist, an ice cream entrepreneur, a college student, a gardener, and a social media marketer.

It looks like a great mix of folks – no one really seems like a weak link on paper. It should be another interesting season, and while I should probably support the Brains team, I’ll likely be rooting for Caleb since he was a lot of fun on Big Brother. It’ll be interesting to see if the other contestants recognize him, and if so, how they treat him.

On tonight’s 90-minute premiere, “I’m a Mental Giant,” eighteen castaways arrive on the island of Kaôh Rong in Cambodia and are divided into three tribes according to brains, brawn, and beauty. Later, one player deals with excruciating pain when a bug gets stuck in their ear.

Meet the new castaways tonight on CBS at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Middle, The Goldbergs, Modern Family, black-ish, Arrow, Supernatural, Young & Hungry, Baby Daddy, Man Seeking Woman, Suits, Face Off, Younger, and Teachers.

chicagopd210smallI love when get crossovers on NBC with the Chicago-based shows, and it’s fun when Law & Order: SVU is included. Tonight, it’s Chicago PD (my favorite of the Chicago series) that the New York City show is paired with. Dallas Roberts is back. He plays the deliciously evil Gregory Yates, who kidnapped and murdered a BUNCH of women, including Nadia on Chicago PD last season. They, along with the detectives from New York, helped catch him, and he was convicted of murder and put in prison. So why is he back? He’s escaped. Eek. It should be a fun ride as they attempt to catch him again in the back-to-back crossover episodes.

On tonight’s Law & Order: SVU episode, “Nationwide Manhunt,” Erin Lindsay and Antonio Dawson join the SVU team in the hunt for two escaped murderers they helped to convict. Dallas Roberts, Jefferson Mays, Sophia Bush, and Jon Seda guest star.

Then on the Chicago PD episode, “The Song of Gregory William Yates,” Intelligence learns that Yates intends to flee New York and is headed for Chicago. The SVU team informs them that Yates has been gathering information on Lindsay, and after Platt calls in a triple homicide likely at the hand of Yates, Benson and Fin catch the next plane to Chicago. Dallas Roberts, Mariska Hargitay, and Ice-T guest star.

Don’t miss either episode of exciting action tonight on NBC starting at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing 2 Broke Girls, The Mysteries of Laura, The Goldbergs, Mike & Molly, Criminal Minds, Modern Family, Property Brothers, Hell’s Kitchen, black-ish, Code Black, & Restaurant Startup.

Last week, Younger returned to TV Land to kick off its second season. Liza’s daughter Caitlyn returned home from India but decided not to stick around after she saw her mother making out with Josh, and she went off to live and work with her father for a few weeks. Ever since he learned that Liza was actually 40, Josh became obsessed with her age. Plus, he now had to lie to his friends and her coworkers to keep up Liza’s charade – and this started to put a strain on their relationship. Meanwhile, Kelsey was getting tired of being neglected at work and almost took an offer to go to another publisher. However, Charles offered her her own imprint for 20-somethings and the ability to select her own team. Josh had convinced Liza to at least tell Kelsey the truth about her age. However, just as she was about to, Kelsey shared the good news about her promotion, how she wanted Liza to join her team, and how exciting it would be to have a bunch of 26-year-olds working together. And so Liza decided that it wasn’t the right moment to come clean. However, my favorite story line from the premiere was Diana’s embarrassing one-sided flirting with Charles, followed by her being stuck in a dentist’s chair, unable to speak, as the hot young doctor flirted with Charles right above her.

This show was one of my favorite new series last year – another great show from prolific producer Darren Star! I look forward to seeing how the rest of the season plays out. How long can Liza keep her secret? Do Liza and Josh have a future together, or will she move on to start a relationship with Charles? (They seem perfect for one another.) I’m really happy to have this show back on my TV!

A tip for folks who don’t get TV Land in HD: The series is also airs on Nickelodeon (though sometimes not on the same day).

On tonight’s episode, “Like a Boss,” Liza and Kelsey launch a new imprint while facing online criticism.

See how the new imprint goes for Liza and Kelsey tonight on TV Land at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Criminal Minds, The Middle, The Goldbergs, black-ish, Second Chance, Arrow, Supernatural, Man Seeking Woman, Face Off, and Teachers.

theleague129smallAfter 7 hilarious seasons, the FX/FXX comedy The League finally comes to an end tonight. Last week, the guys were getting sick of giving automatic wins to Ruxin and suspected he might be milking the situation of his wife’s passing. So Taco finally confronted him, and Ruxin agreed to stop taking the free passes. Meanwhile, Raffi – in his unique and twisted way – tried to help Ruxin with the grieving process by offering to take his sister’s place in the bedroom.

Later, Raffi managed to get the league banned from the website after posting a video of himself and Dirty Randy having sex with some birds (and not the British use of the word) to the chat board. This meant Kevin was forced to run the league by hand – which led to a lot of issues, especially since he let baby Chalupa Batman help with the math. Due to the league stats mess, everyone will now be in the playoffs. Meanwhile, Andre tried to get an exclusive restaurant to let him use a dinner reservation Ruxin had set up for Sofia and himself. The episode ended with one final bombshell, that Pete’s ex-wife Meegan is pregnant.

After seven seasons, how will this show come to an end? It’s anyone’s game this time around – so who will be the final Shiva winner and who will take home the Sacko? Is Andre the father of Meegan’s baby? And if so, how will Pete and the others react?

On tonight’s finale, “The Great Night of Shiva,” the fates of the Shiva, Sacko, and Snip are decided. Also: Ruxin makes a big decision that impacts his chances of winning and the league’s survival.

To see how the series ends, tune in to FXX at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Survivor, Criminal Minds, The Middle, The Goldbergs, Modern Family, black-ish, Arrow, Supernatural, American Horror Story: Hotel, You’re the Worst, and Neon Joe, Werewolf Hunter.
