cutthroatkitchen2015smallOne of my favorite cooking competition shows is Cutthroat Kitchen. The sabotages on this show can be absolutely brutal. For the life of me, I couldn’t tell you which is my favorite, although I think the ones that force the chefs to use weird contraptions to mix, cut, or heat their food…or the ones that switch the basket ingredients for random, sometimes horrible, items…are the worst. And frankly, the chefs who refuse to spend a dime are just asking for trouble. I also love it when a chef sabotages themselves by forgetting one or more ingredients in the pantry. *laugh*

There are two episodes tonight. The first is a special, kind of a behind-the-scenes look at how to survive the sabotages. The second is the first episode in the latest “superstar” tournament, featuring superstar chefs trying to win money for their favorite charities. These are always a blast because these chefs are brilliant and always funny to watch.

On tonight’s first episode, “Secrets of Survival,” the secrets to surviving even the most wicked sabotages are revealed along with tips and tricks to outmaneuver the competition, impress the judges, and become the last chef standing. Then on the second episode, “Superstar Sabotage: Knife, Knife Baby,” chefs Richard Blais, Cat Cora, Melissa d’Arabian, and Aarti Sequeira face off; one chef must make an English breakfast while wearing knight’s armor; two chefs are then strapped toe-to-toe for a tofu challenge.

See if you think you could survive the sabotages tonight on Food Network at 8/7c & 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Hellevator, The Mysteries of Laura, Rosewood, Criminal Minds, Law & Order: SVU, Chicago PD, Code Black, & Mystery Diners.

impastor92smallI have been really enjoying TV Land’s new comedy Impastor and was thrilled by the news earlier this week that the series has been picked up for a second season! One of the things I really enjoy about the show, besides the humor and wonderful cast, is the serialized nature of the story. While there’s always some hilarious new situations each week, I like how each episode builds off of the previous one — and usually leaves us with a mini cliffhanger for the next week.

In last week’s episode, 11-year-old photographer Miles caught Buddy having sex with Ashlee in the woods, demanding that he get to cop a feel with Dora in exchange for the photos. As Buddy tried to figure out a solution to his blackmail problem, more bad news arrived: Kenny’s dead body washed ashore, and the police wanted to speak with him. Meanwhile, Dora was organizing the town’s annual Reformation Day Fair; and Alden Schmidt purchased a burner phone to secretly call a prostitute. However, when Buddy discovered this, he used this information to get Schmidt to help solve his police problem.

On tonight’s episode, “Bingo Tell It On the Mountain,” Buddy is threatened by a new family in town; Dora asks Buddy for help to overcome a strange addiction; and Schmidt has a rendezvous with Ashlee.

To see how the season ends, tune in to TV Land at 10:30/9:30c

Tip: If your cable provider doesn’t carry TV Land in HD, set your season recording on Nickelodeon instead!

I’ll also be watching/recording Big Brother, Celebrity Wife Swap, MasterChef, Young & Hungry, Kevin from Work, Mr. Robot, The Jim Gaffigan Show, and Twinning.

kevinfromwork812smallTonight, ABC Family kicks off its new workplace comedy, Kevin From Work, with a double-dose of episodes. Kevin (Noah Reid, Backpackers) is about to leave his life in LA for a new job in Italy. He has been madly in love with his cube neighbor Audrey (Paige Spara) for the past 3 years and has never had the courage to tell her. So in a drunken haze, he decides that since he’ll never see her again, it’s the perfect opportunity to reveal his feelings. However, when his new job falls through, he must beg his horrible boss (Amy Sedaris, Strangers with Candy) for his old job back and now must deal with the fallout of his declaration. Rounding out the cast of characters are Kevin’s wild sister Roxie (Jordan Hinson, Eureka), his best friend Brian (Matt Murray, Rookie Blue), and Audrey’s roommate Patti (Punam Patel).

ABC Family has made the first episode available to watch online/On Demand. From the ads, I was expecting this series to be more wild and crazy. While it does have these moments, it also takes time to explore the characters a little more and builds to a rather heartfelt conclusion that makes me anxious to see tonight’s second episode. The first episode kind of had a bit of an A to Z-type vibe (minus the narration). Will the show become more of a broad comedy or go for a slower romcom feel, or will it find some happy medium? I’m looking forward to seeing how the rest of the season plays out.

Step into Kevin’s world tonight on ABC Family at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Big Brother, MasterChef, The Jim Gaffigan Show, Impastor, Flipping Out, Suits, Mr. Robot, and Twinning.

gameofthrones412smallYou really can’t lose with tonight’s amazing lineup on HBO — I love returning comedies Silicon Valley and Veep, and Last Week Tonight is always informative and hilarious. However, the show I’m most excited for is the return of Game of Thrones.

When we last visited Westeros, Jon was trying to negotiate an end to the battle with the Wildling king when Stannis and his army arrived; Cersei brought in a young doctor to try to save the Mountain from dying from the poisoned spear Oberyn pierced him with; Daenerys decided to chain up her dragons after they started eating the villagers; and Bran, Hodor, and his crew visited the Three-Eyed Raven in the forest, who revealed that Bran would not walk again but would fly. Elsewhere, Brienne came across Arya and the Hound and started a fight with the Hound, mortally wounding him as she knocked him off a cliff. The Hound begged Arya to kill him, but she just took his money and left him to die. Later, she boarded a ship, using her “Valar Morghulis” chip to gain passage. And finally, Jaime and Varys helped Tyrion escape before his execution, but on his way out, Tyrion first strangled Shae and then executed his father while he sat on the toilet.

There’s so many characters to keep track of! Tonight we’ll finally see the fallout from Tyrion’s escape and murder of Tywin and see what moves those vying to sit atop the Iron Throne will make next. I’m looking forward to another exciting season!

On tonight’s episode, “The Wars to Come,” Varys struggles to convince Tyrion to think outside the box while discussing a potential occupant of the Iron Throne. Meanwhile, Stannis leans on Jon to secure loyalty from a rival; Daenerys ignores tradition to remain on her progressive path; and Cersei and Jaime try to move on from Tywin’s demise.

Enjoy the return of all the drama tonight on HBO at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Madam Secretary, The Good Wife, Once Upon a Time, American Odyssey, Family Guy, The Last Man on Earth, Mad Men, 2015 MTV Movie Awards, The Royals, Silicon Valley, Veep, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, and Nurse Jackie.
