Early this morning, Netflix released all of the episodes of the sixth season of Orange is the New Black. Last season, the series took a unique approach, with the entire season taking place over the course of just 3 days, as the Litchfield inmates rioted for better living conditions after the accidental death of inmate/friend Poussey. After days of trying to negotiate with the prisoners, CERT sent in a tactical team to squelch the uprising. Meanwhile, Red tried to lure former CO Piscatella into a trap to get her revenge. However, he discovered what she was up to and entered the prison on his own, where he held Alex, Piper, Red, and some others hostage. The women eventually managed to turn the tables on Piscatella, but the CERT team found Freida’s hidden bunker just as he was trying to leave, and they shot him, thinking he was an armed assailant in the haze of the smoke bombs they had released.

During the riot, Maritza and Flaca had bonded making their YouTube prison-style videos. However, they were upset to discover that all of the Litchfield inmates were being gathered onto buses to be redistributed to other prisons while the riot aftermath was cleaned up…and the two of them had been placed on different buses. Meanwhile, Leanne and Angie set fire to all of the prisoner records; Lorna discovered she was pregnant, and her boyfriend professed his love; and Pennsatucky managed to escape from prison and made her way to the home of her CO boyfriend. Back in the bunker, Red, Freida, the newly-engaged Piper and Alex, and some other inmates locked arms, bracing themselves for the unknown as the CERT team entered the room with guns locked and loaded.

I’m looking forward to seeing where things open in the new season and how this affects the main characters we have followed for five seasons. Will our group be separated from one another? Is Litchfield no more? Will we jump ahead to after things have been cleaned up from the riots? Or have the women been sent to a new prison/prisons, and if so, how will the environment/character dynamics be different?

Check out the entire sixth season streaming now on Netflix.

I’ll also be watching/recording Welcome to the Family, The Great British Baking Show, Wynonna Earp, Killjoys, and Outcast.

Tonight marks the halfway point in the third season of Syfy’s Dark Matter. Last week the Raza crew finally learned what hitched a ride with them when they returned from their trip through time last season — it was their doppelgangers from the alternate universe, aboard their own Maurader. The evil Portia Lin and Boone infiltrated one of Zairon’s ships, releasing passengers out the airlock. This started giving our Two and Three a bad reputation and caused Commander Truffault to call off their alliance. Our crew eventually figured out what was going on and were able to stop the alternates. Afterwards, Adrian decided it was time for him to move on, and the others decided to make a trip to check in on Six. However, when they arrived at the colony, it appeared that everyone there was dead.

What happened to the colony? Is Six still alive? Is this really the last we’ve seen of Adrian and his bodyguard Solara? (I hope not, as I was really enjoying those characters — they were a great fit with the rest of the Raza crew!) Will Ryo be able to stop the fall of the House of Ishida? And will he ever return the nice Four we once knew?

On tonight’s episode, “Wish I Could Believe You,” an injured crew member is haunted by the past, unaware of the dangers that are lurking in the present.

Find out who’s haunted by the past tonight on Syfy at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Friends From College, The Great British Baking Show, Ginormous Food, Killjoys, Wynonna Earp, and Playing House.

Tonight, Syfy Fridays are back, with the season premieres of Dark Matter and Wynonna Earp!

When the second season of Dark Matter left off, things didn’t look good for our Raza crew. Four had restored his memories and fully embraced his former life as Ishida Ryo. In an effort to help win the war for Zairon, he had plans to blow up the EOS-7 station where the summit was being held. The rest of the Raza crew headed to EOS-7 to stop him, leaving Nyx behind to watch the ship. As Five joined Truffault at the summit, the others spread out to look for the explosives. Things didn’t go as planned—as Two tried to reason with Ryo, Three was abducted by Nieman and some of his Ferrous Corporation goons, and Six was caught by Kierken and stuck in a cell. Meanwhile, Ryo and Misaki snuck away and boarded the Raza. Misaki poisoned and killed Nyx while Ryo stole the blink drive. As they were leaving Ryo told Android to get the crew back to the ship ASAP if they wanted to live. The resulting blast loosened the bars on Six’s cell, freeing him to get to the Marauder; Truffault and Five ran for an escape pod; Three was still with Galactic Authority cop Lt. Anders; and two was somewhere on the station.

Did the entire Raza crew manage to escape before the station exploded? Even if Two was caught in the blast, couldn’t her nannites save her? Is Nyx really dead? Is still some of Four left in Ryo? After all, he did warn the others to get off the station. What does he plan to do with the blink drive, and can whoever is left from the Raza crew regroup in time to stop him?

Tonight’s 2-hour season premiere is a fun, action-packed start to what looks to be another exciting and entertaining season! However, as I was watching, I found myself missing the old crew. Last season we lost both One and Four, and now it feels like some part of the fun group dynamic is missing. I hope that the crew finds some way to bring Four back into the fold or that we get some additional fun crew members to fill the void.

On tonight’s 2-hour premiere, “Being Better Is So Much Harder; It Doesn’t Have to Be Like This,” the scattered survivors of EOS-7 battle to regroup amidst the backdrop of corporate war. Ryo Ishida, now emperor of Zairon, makes an enemy of his former allies, while the past comes back to haunt the crew of the Raza.

After tonight’s Dark Matter premiere, Wynonna Earp returns for a second season. This series also had a crazy season finale last year. Waverly confronted Bobo, and in the process discovered that she’s not actually an Earp. Meanwhile, Wynonna went after Willa, who used the Peacemaker to cross through the gate that led out of the Ghost River Triangle. However, as she did so, a giant snake-like creature came through and grabbed her. A scuffle ensued, and eventually Wynonna was forced to fire a bullet in Willa’s head in order to put a stop to everything.

Afterwards, the Black Badge folks showed up, and took Bobo and Dolls into custody. While Dolls was heading to prison, Bobo was about to experience a slow, painful death as soon as the truck made it across the border. So as the vehicle was driving away, Wynonna used the Peacemaker to give Bobo a mercy killing. Afterwards, as Doc and Wynonna plotted how to break Dolls out of prison, Waverly wandered over to a puddle of black goo and put her fingers in. This caused her eyes to turn pitch black, and she pulled a gun on Wynonna and Doc.

Will someone (or something) step up to lead the Revenants now that Bobo is no longer around to keep them in check? What is this darkness that seems to have entered Waverly, and is it going to make her kill her family/friends? Is there any truth to what Bobo said about Waverly not being an Earp, and what are the ramifications? Why does Black Badge have this personal vendetta against Dolls, and what do they plan to do with him? And what will happen to Dolls if he doesn’t get another dosage of his medicine soon?

I thoroughly enjoyed tonight’s season premiere—probably even more so than the Dark Matter premiere, which is a first for me! Tonight’s episode is less about catching the demon of the week and more about a rescue mission. It also introduces a couple fun new characters, and sets up an interesting and exciting new arc for the season.

On tonight’s premiere, “Steel Bars and Stone Walls,” Wynonna and the gang must deal with a whole new level of evil when a variety of demons enter the Ghost River Triangle.

Don’t miss the season premieres of both shows on Syfy starting at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Ginormous Food.

Jenny’s Choice #1

wynonnaearp41smallThere’s a new show starting tonight on Syfy that could either be fun or really ridiculous. I’m hoping for the first. And it may seem like an April Fools’ Day prank, but it isn’t… Wynonna Earp follows Wyatt Earp’s great-granddaughter as she battles demons and other creatures. After years away, Wynonna (Melanie Scrofano, Damien, The Listener, Being Erica) has traveled back to her home town of Purgatory to reluctantly take on the role destined for Wyatt Earp’s heir: Demon protector. Her enemy: Revenants, the resurrected (and twisted) souls of the criminals Wyatt Earp once took down. Working alongside Wynonna is her sister Waverely (Dominique Provost-Chalkley), who has an obsession with their family’s legacy and is more than a little bitter that she wasn’t chosen as the heir to take over the family business; associate Agent Dolls (Shamier Anderson, The Next Step), an all-business straight shooter; and Wyatt’s cursed-with-immortality-best-friend Doc Holliday (Tim Rozon, Schitt’s Creek, Being Human, Lost Girl, Instant Star), a man with a thirst for revenge and on a mission to rectify the past. They must try to stop the Revenants from taking over the town – and escaping into the world.

Like I said, this could be a lot of fun or just silly enough to be stupid. But the premise is interesting, so it’s worth a shot to figure out if you’ll enjoy it or not!

On tonight’s episode, “Purgatory,” on her 27th birthday, Wynonna Earp reluctantly returns home to take on her family’s legendary curse.

Meet Wynonna and the rest of the Revenant-hunting gang tonight on Syfy at 10/9c.
